A native of Newmarket, Ontario, Travis was selected 34th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Travis enjoyed three outstanding seasons playing junior hockey in the OHL for the Erie Otters and was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015. He made his pro debut in the 2015-16 AHL playoffs with the Toronto Marlies, and played his first pro season with the Marlies in 2016-17.

After the Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs, Travis was sent to the Marlies to help them in their 2018 Calder Cup playoff run. Travis helped the Marlies win their first Calder Cup in a 7 game playoff series against the Texas Stars. Travis is now in his first full NHL Season with the Toronto Maple Leafs with 3 goals and 11 assists in 45 games played so far this season.
