A native of Toronto, Ontario, Rich was selected in the 3rd round, 71st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars. He was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 2008 and played with the Kings in the 2010 playoffs. Rich was acquired by the Nashville Predators in 2012 and after 3 seasons with Nashville he signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs. For the past three seasons, Clune has split time between the Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies. Following the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, he was named the Marlies IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Toronto community.
