A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Jason was selected 2nd overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. Spezza is the 2nd highest scorer in Senators history with 687 points in 686 regular season games. He is a two-time NHL All-Star and was named the Senators' captain prior to the 2013 season. On July 1, 2014, Jason was traded to his current team, the Dallas Stars in a multi-player deal.
Internationally, Spezza has represented Canada on several occasions including three U20 World Junior Championships, two World Championships and one Spengler Cup. He has also been part of two Canadian Olympic Mens' hockey teams.
