A native of Oakville, Ontario, Cody was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2nd Round, 37th pick overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Following a standout collegiate career at Wisconsin, Cody played his first NHL game for Columbus in March, 2012. Cody became an NHL regular during the 2014-15 season and continues to establish himself as a versatile defenseman. In 2017, Cody was traded from The Columbus Blue Jackets to the Colorado Avalanche.

Internationally, Cody was a member of Canada’s Gold Medal winning team at the 2009 IIHF U-20 World Junior Championships.
