A native of Belle River, ON, Aaron is one of only 4 players to be given Exceptional Player status to enter the OHL as an underage player. In the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Aaron was selected first overall by the Florida Panthers. Aaron won the Calder Trophy in 2014-15 and was named to the NHL All-Rookie team that year. Aaron participated in both the 2015 and 2016 NHL All Star Games.

Internationally, Aaron captained the Gold Medal winning team for Canada at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial U18 tournament. Aaron also played for Canada in the 2014 World Junior Championships and won a Gold Medal at the 2015 IIHF Mens World Championships in Prague and was an assistant captain on Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.
