DAVE GAGNER

Dave Gagner joined the Orr Hockey Group as a partner on September 1st 2013. Dave brings a tremendous amount of experience, practical knowledge and hockey industry relationships to his important role within our company. Based in the Toronto area and working closely with Jeff Jackson, Dave is responsible for recruiting, mentoring and helping our client players best pursue their hockey related goals and aspirations. Gagner is involved in all of Orr Hockey’s strategic decisions and his experience as a successful entrepreneur is invaluable as our company evolves and adapts to the ever-changing demands of the hockey business.

Prior to joining Orr Hockey, Dave was the Director of Player Development for the Vancouver Canucks for over five years. In that role, he was primarily responsible for working with Vancouver’s drafted and young players to assist in their continued growth as professionals. He also advised on all Canucks training and skill development programs while working closely with the Canucks scouting departments to create Summer Development and Training Camp rosters.

He also has invaluable experience as a top level coach. Gagner was an Assistant Coach with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (2006 to 2008) and with the 2005 OHL Cup Championship Toronto Marlies Minor Midgets. During this time, he was instrumental in the coaching and development of current NHL’ers John Tavares, Patrick Kane, Brendan Smith as well as his own son Sam Gagner, among others. During his time in London with the Knights, Gagner also established and built his own player development center for minor, college and professional hockey players.

As a hockey player, Gagner had an illustrious career. An OHL star with the Brantford Alexanders (now the Erie Otters), Dave scored 92 goals and 217 points in 150 games and was the recipient of the OHL Scholastic Player of the Year award. Gagner also represented Canada at the 1983 World Junior Championships and was a member of Canada’s Olympic team at the 1984 Winter Olympics. He was the 12th overall selection in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft and played 1003 NHL games over 15 seasons, recording 767 points (340-427-767) and 1,084 penalty minutes.

The Chatham, Ontario, native obtained his BA in Finance & Economics from Western University and in March of 2000, Gagner founded Custom Ice., a company that specializes in ice rink design and construction. To date, Custom Ice has successfully installed over 500 rinks across North America and Europe.

He currently resides in Oakville, Ontario, with his wife Jo-Anne, and has three children. Sam is entering his 9th NHL season; Jessica is now Marketing Manager for a Toronto biometric firm and Renee is a graduate of New York’s Cap21 Theatre Arts Program and was recently selected to perform in the 2015 edition of Broadway’s Rising Stars.
